Hurtigruten Expeditions (HX) has unveiled its 2026-2027 season lineup, marking its upcoming 130th season of exploration with new itineraries in Antarctica, Alaska, Greenland, Norway and the Galapagos.
In 1896, the company that would become HX launched its Sportsman’s Route to Svalbard, the last inhabited outpost before the North Pole. At the time, only explorers ventured into these remote regions, and HX innovated by bringing travelers to these destinations and laying the groundwork for the expedition cruise industry. Now, 130 years later, the expedition cruise line continues to expand on this legacy and deepen its connection to the people and places central to each destination.
“These are the best destinations done better than ever,” said Alex McNeil, Chief Expedition Officer (CXO), Hurtigruten Expeditions, in a press release statement. “We’re building on over a century of maritime expertise by enhancing local partnerships and community-focused experiences, ensuring a lasting, positive impact wherever we go.”
New Itineraries from Hurtigruten Expeditions
On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse will occur over East Greenland. The path of totality will pass through Svalbard, Greenland and Iceland. HX will draw on its decades of expertise in the Arctic region, where it has been operating longer than any other cruise line, to present the Solar Eclipse Expedition in celebration of its 130th anniversary and the company’s first expedition in the summer of 1896.
In January 2026, HX will also offer the 7-night Ultimate Norway expedition, inspired by the Norwegian concept of friluftsliv or ‘free air life.’ Guests will travel to the Lyngen Alps, Lofoten Islands, Vesteralen and Senja while experiencing polar nights and the Northern Lights.
HX is also offering new 9- and 12-night voyages exploring Alaska. The 9-night Fjords of the Great Land itinerary offers a condensed yet immersive exploration, ideal for travelers seeking a shorter adventure from Vancouver to Seward. While the 12-night Where the Mountains Meet the Sea itinerary begins in Seward, visits Prince William Sound, and crosses the Gulf of Alaska to follow the Inside Passage through Southeast Alaska and British Columbia, ending in Vancouver.
The new Explorer’s Route itinerary offers travelers the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the great explorers who originally traversed the Seventh Continent of Antarctica. Over nine days, guests will visit the South Shetland Islands, Antarctic Sound, Weddell Sea, Gerlache Strait, and Penola Strait, beginning and ending in Buenos Aires. As the largest operator in Antarctica, HX provides exclusive access to secluded areas beyond the usual routes.
New itineraries departing from Dover and Hamburg are also in the works, exploring Europe’s west coast as spring returns. Stops include remote islands rich in culture and nature, with unique locations only accessible by a small ship, such as the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly, the Dutch coastal town of Harlingen and Germany’s Heligoland Island. New Svalbard expeditions will also depart from Dover and Hamburg, taking travelers through Norway’s fjords before heading to the Arctic and the west coast of Svalbard.
HX loyalty members will receive an additional 5 percent discount on all 2026-2027 season sailings (combinable with other offers). Travelers can also take advantage of a lower deposit of 15 percent on bookings made through Nov. 11, 2024, for selected HX departures from Apr. 1, 2026, to Mar. 31, 2027.
