Frontier Airlines Launches Fort Lauderdale-Detroit Route Previously Served by Spirit

Frontier Airlines has launched new daily nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, a route previously operated by Spirit Airlines.

The new route began July 5 and provides another low-fare option for travelers flying between South Florida and Detroit, as well as onward connections across Frontier’s domestic network.

Low Fares For Travel Until Sept. 2026

To celebrate the launch, Frontier is offering introductory one-way fares starting at $49 for select travel dates.

“We are pleased to grow our service at FLL, ensuring low-cost travel options remain available to South Floridians as well as tourists visiting the area,” said Josh Flyr, VP of Network and Operations Design, Frontier Airlines, in a press statement. “With premium upgrades paired with our signature affordability, we are thrilled to show travelers why we are America’s Low Fare Airline.”

Frontier Airlines has also introduced changes to its product and customer service offerings, ushering in ‘The New Frontier.’ Among the enhancements is UpFront Plus seating, an upgraded seating option with extra leg and elbow room in the first two rows of the aircraft.

Customers in UpFront Plus enjoy a window or aisle seat with extra legroom and a guaranteed empty middle seat. The airline also now offers unlimited companion travel for loyal customers, with the flexibility to choose a different companion on every Frontier flight. The airline also plans to debut First Class seating later this year.

The introductory $49 fare is available for purchase through July 12 and is valid on select nonstop travel between Aug. 3 and Sept. 2, 2026.
