American Cruise Lines is set to significantly expand its fleet, announcing contracts for four additional new ships with Chesapeake Shipbuilding.
This brings the company’s portfolio with Chesapeake to 10 vessels scheduled for completion over the next three years. With this expansion, American Cruise Lines will operate 21 small ships nationwide by next year, affirming its position as a leader in the U.S. river cruise market, one of the fastest-growing sectors in the industry.
More to Come for American
The first of the new ships, American Legend, recently completed sea trials and is scheduled for its maiden voyage on Nov. 25, 2024. Following American Legend, the rollout of new vessels will continue steadily, with three riverboats and six additional coastal ships joining the fleet by 2027.
Currently open for booking are American Patriot and American Pioneer in 2025, followed by American Maverick and American Ranger in 2026, as well as the new riverboat American Encore slated for 2026. More details on the four remaining ships will be released as they approach completion.
This rapid fleet expansion reflects the growing interest in American river cruising. Over the past two decades, American Cruise Lines has introduced 19 of the 24 U.S.-built cruise ships, leading the domestic cruise market with its unique itineraries and 100% U.S.-flagged fleet.
The line’s vessels are purpose-built for all-domestic river and coastal itineraries, giving travelers options to explore destinations across the United States without the need for international travel. American Cruise Lines is committed to enhancing its offerings with top-tier amenities, creating new opportunities for travelers seeking local, immersive cruise experiences.
