Atlantis Paradise Island has always been larger than life. Since the 1990s, its pastel towers have drawn travelers from around the globe, cementing its place as one of the Caribbean’s most recognized resorts. Today, after a $250 million refresh, the legendary property feels both iconic and brand new—perfectly positioned for families, couples and multi-generational clients seeking an island escape not too far from the continental U.S.
During my recent 4-day stay, I experienced first-hand how Atlantis continues to evolve without losing its sense of wonder. What began as a bold vision inspired by the lost city of Atlantis has grown into a destination that feels like a world unto itself—part luxury resort, part marine habitat and part Bahamian cultural showcase.
A World of Adventure: Aquaventure and Marine Encounters
Let’s start with Aquaventure, the resort’s 141-acre waterpark that’s as thrilling as it is expansive. With 14 pools, high-speed slides and a mile-long river rapid ride that winds through lush tropical landscaping, it’s paradise for guests of all ages. Adrenaline seekers can plunge through the Leap of Faith, a near-vertical slide that shoots riders through a clear tunnel surrounded by sharks, while younger guests splash through shallower pools and interactive play zones.
Beyond the slides, Atlantis’ connection to the ocean runs deep. The resort is home to one of the world’s largest open-air marine habitats, where lagoons, underwater tunnels and aquariums showcase thousands of marine animals. The Dig, an immersive, maze-like aquarium, brings the mythical city of Atlantis to life through ancient ruins and coral-filled chambers—an experience as fascinating for children as it is for adults.
At Dolphin Cay, guests can enjoy up-close encounters with dolphins and sea lions while learning about marine conservation. These experiences are more than photo opportunities—they’re part of the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation, which supports coral reef restoration, marine research and wildlife rehabilitation across the Bahamas. Visitors can even take part in hands-on conservation activities such as coral grafting or turtle releases, creating memories that make a real-world impact.
For Families, Couples and Everyone in Between
Families traveling with kids will find no shortage of excitement at Atlantis Kids Adventures where children ages 3 to 12 can dive into themed activities like culinary classes, arts and crafts and interactive games under the guidance of trained counselors. Teens have their own hangout at CRUSH, a high-tech lounge with video games, a dance floor and a cafe that encourages independence in a safe environment.
Couples, on the other hand, can find serenity in quieter corners of the resort—whether it’s lounging in a private cabana by the Royal Baths Pool, enjoying a sunset stroll along Cabbage Beach or booking a treatment for two at Mandara Spa.
Multi-generational travelers will appreciate that the resort offers something for everyone, from grandparents who might prefer a round at the Ocean Club Golf Course or a peaceful afternoon at The Cove’s adults-only pool, to parents and kids ready to take on the water slides together. The sheer range of activities means no one ever has to compromise—everyone can find their own version of paradise.
Culinary Journeys Worth the Trip
With more than 40 restaurants, bars and lounges, dining at Atlantis is an adventure of its own. The resort’s culinary program features a lineup of internationally acclaimed chefs and local talent, offering everything from casual bites to fine dining with ocean views.
Nobu remains a standout, serving exquisite Japanese cuisine with a Bahamian twist in a sleek, candlelit setting. Paranza, the resort’s newest restaurant by Michelin-starred chef Michael White, celebrates coastal Italian cuisine with inventive seafood and pasta dishes that are as artful as they are flavorful. Silan invites guests to linger over Mediterranean-inspired shared plates and hand-crafted cocktails infused with local herbs and spices. And Claudio’s, the historic Greenport, New York, institution that opened its first international outpost at Atlantis in 2025, brings a nautical charm to breakfast, lunch and dinner overlooking the marina.
Families will love the casual options at Marina Village, where open-air eateries serve everything from conch fritters to homemade ice cream, all against the backdrop of luxury yachts and Bahamian music. Every meal feels like a celebration, whether you’re sipping rum punch by the water or toasting a milestone under the stars. And for a classic burger and milkshake vibe, you can’t go wrong with Shake Shack.
Paradise for Every Style of Stay
With five distinct properties, Atlantis offers a range of accommodations tailored to every type of traveler. The Royal, the resort’s iconic centerpiece and home to the famed Bridge Suite, has recently undergone a refresh, bringing a renewed sense of grandeur to its spacious guestrooms and suites. The Cove delivers an upscale, boutique-style experience with sleek oceanfront suites, a private beach and an adults-only pool that appeals to couples and luxury seekers. The Coral, designed with families in mind, features bright, modern rooms just steps from Marina Village and offers convenient access to dining, shopping and kid-friendly activities. The Reef provides residential-style accommodations with kitchenettes and balconies overlooking Paradise Beach, ideal for extended stays or multi-generational travelers. Finally, the Harborside Resort—a collection of colorful villas across the marina—blends the comforts of home with full resort privileges, perfect for larger groups or families seeking space and flexibility.
Getting There
Getting to Nassau is becoming easier with major U.S. airlines expanding their nonstop service to the Bahamian capital. Delta Air Lines will launch new seasonal service from Minneapolis–St. Paul, operating on Saturdays from December 2025 through April 2026. Southwest Airlines now offers daily nonstop flights from Orlando, American Airlines added a daily nonstop route from Chicago in late 2024 and Avelo Airlines debuted its Raleigh-Durham to Nassau service this past summer. Additionally, those flying in from Miami can expect a quick, 35-minute flight.
