Caribbean Airlines Expands Dominica Service

Dominica’s air connectivity is getting a big boost with Caribbean Airlines’ (CAL) announcement of expanded services. The government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has effectively partnered with regional and international airlines to improve the island’s accessibility and enhance the visitor experience.

“We are thrilled with this latest development by Caribbean Airlines, which reinforces the strong partnership between Dominica and the airline,” said Hon. Denise Charles-Pemberton, Dominica’s Minister for Tourism, in a press statement. “The rapid reinstatement of San Juan service and increased frequency via Trinidad are strategic improvements that respond directly to the needs of travelers, tour operators, and Dominican nationals abroad. This will help drive visitor arrivals, boost tourism spending, and support our broader air access goals as we prepare to transition to the international airport.”

Dominica, More Accessible Than Ever

CAL’s new schedule reintroduces direct service between San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Dominica, filling the gap left by Silver Airways’ recent termination of operations. This restored link to the San Juan hub facilitates connections for travelers from the U.S. mainland and the broader Caribbean region.

The new San Juan-Dominica route offers a 4:00 p.m. departure from San Juan, allowing ample time for inbound connecting passengers. The return flight leaves Dominica at 10:00 a.m. This schedule eliminates the need for early morning commutes and reduces extended layovers in San Juan.

In addition to the San Juan route, CAL is enhancing direct connectivity with Trinidad. The increased service from Port of Spain benefits passengers originating in Trinidad and those connecting from CAL’s flights out of JFK (New York) and Toronto, crucial tourism markets for Dominica.

These schedule changes bring immediate improvements for travelers. Service from Toronto to Dominica increases from once weekly to four times weekly southbound and twice weekly northbound via Port of Spain.

For travel advisors, these new flight options open up exciting possibilities for clients interested in exploring Dominica, often referred to as the “Nature Island” of the Caribbean. The improved air access allows for more flexible itineraries and easier combinations with other Caribbean destinations.
