Kimpton has expanded its footprint in Mexico City with the opening of Kimpton El Castelar, a 34-room boutique hotel housed in the historic Roel Building in the city’s upscale Polanco neighborhood.
Dating to 1940 and designed by renowned Mexican architect Francisco J. Serrano, the Roel Building has been reimagined as an intimate hotel that blends its preserved architectural character with contemporary Mexican design. Locally sourced furnishings and original works by Mexican artists are featured throughout the property.
Located at Emilio Castelar 107, across from Lincoln Park, Kimpton El Castelar gives travelers a boutique base in one of Mexico City’s most walkable neighborhoods. Avenida Presidente Masaryk, Auditorio Nacional and Chapultepec Park are all nearby, while private outdoor terraces offer quieter spaces overlooking the surrounding neighborhood.
“Kimpton El Castelar is an authentic addition to the spirit of Mexico City. Our intention is for guests to use the hotel as their home base as they discover the hidden treasures of the trendy Polanco neighborhood,” said Alejandro Gallegos, General Manager of Kimpton El Castelar, in a press statement.
A Historic Building Reimagined
The hotel’s design retains the character of the Roel Building while introducing interiors defined by faded terracotta, warm metals, natural stone, patterned cement tile and textural wood floors.
Guest rooms are designed with a residential feel and feature furniture and decor sourced in Mexico, along with original artwork. Most accommodations include soaking tubs, while select rooms feature furnished private terraces surrounded by greenery.
A Polanco Home Base
Kimpton El Castelar is positioned as a gateway to Polanco and the rest of Mexico City. Guests can explore the neighborhood on foot or use the hotel’s complimentary bikes.
The property also offers several signature Kimpton amenities, including morning coffee and tea through Kimpton Kickstart and an evening Social Hour featuring complimentary beer and wine. Yoga mats are available in every guest room, and pets are welcomed at no additional charge.
Kimpton El Castelar joins Kimpton Virgilio as the brand’s second property in Polanco.
