Catch the 2026 Solar Eclipse on Alaska Airlines’ Flight to Iceland

If you’re looking to build a once-in-a-lifetime experiential itinerary around a major celestial event in 2026, consider Iceland as it prepares to welcome travelers for the Aug. 12 total solar eclipse.

With Iceland expected to be one of the world’s premier locations to experience totality, Alaska Airlines is highlighting its seasonal nonstop service between Seattle and Reykjavík as a convenient option for travelers planning a trip around the rare astronomical event.

The 2026 seasonal route departs Seattle at 6:35 p.m. and lands at 9 a.m. the next day, giving guests a full day to explore the island country. The return flight departs Reykjavík at 12:45 p.m. and lands in Seattle at 1:40 p.m. the same day.

Follow the Eclipse

During the eclipse, the moon will pass directly between Earth and the sun, briefly turning daylight into dusk and revealing the sun’s glowing corona. Western Iceland is expected to offer some of the best viewing conditions, with totality lasting up to approximately two minutes in select areas during the late afternoon.

Alaska’s daily seasonal service between Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Reykjavík’s Keflavík International Airport gives travelers from the U.S. West Coast and beyond direct access to Iceland’s capital. The route also allows visitors to extend their stay and explore the country’s volcanic landscapes, waterfalls, glaciers and geothermal attractions before or after the eclipse.

Through Alaska’s expanded codeshare partnership with Icelandair, travelers can combine flights on both airlines under a single ticket and connect from Reykjavík to more than 35 European destinations.

The carrier’s partnerships through the oneworld alliance also provide additional opportunities for travelers planning broader international journeys.

Alaska’s seasonal Reykjavík service operates through Sept. 8, 2026, and is scheduled to return in spring 2027.
