Hyatt has officially completed its acquisition of Playa Hotels & Resorts, owner, operator and developer of all-inclusive resorts across Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.
The deal includes 15 resorts previously owned and managed by Playa. Of these, eight properties—including popular Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara resorts—were already part of Hyatt’s portfolio.
With the acquisition of Playa Hotels & Resorts, Hyatt now welcomes several new properties in high-demand destinations, such as:
-
Secrets La Romana and Dreams La Romana in the Dominican Republic
-
Dreams Rose Hall in Montego Bay, Jamaica
-
Hyatt Vivid Playa del Carmen and Sunscape Cancun in Mexico
“As we welcome Playa into the Hyatt family, we are strengthening our leadership in the all-inclusive space through a combination of new locations, capabilities, and talent,” said Mark Hoplamazian, President and Chief Executive Officer, Hyatt, in a press statement.
Hyatt’s foray into the all-inclusive segment began with Playa in 2013 through the launch of the Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara brands. That commitment deepened with Hyatt’s acquisition of Apple Leisure Group in 2021 and the recent joint venture with Grupo Piñero for Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts. The Playa acquisition is the latest move in Hyatt’s strategic growth plan for the segment.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the Playa team into the Hyatt family—a move that not only strengthens our position as a global leader in all-inclusive, but also builds on our momentum in the segment,” said Javier Aguila, President, Inclusive Collection, Hyatt, in a press statement.
