Paul Gauguin Cruises is giving travelers new ways to experience French Polynesia in 2027, with itineraries that go beyond Bora Bora to lesser-known islands.

The cruise line will operate 34 French Polynesia voyages in 2027, ranging from seven to 20 nights aboard the m/s Paul Gauguin, a small ship designed for the region’s shallow lagoons and intimate ports.

A Focus on Conservation

One of the biggest developments shaping French Polynesia travel is the region’s growing focus on marine conservation. In 2025, the Government of French Polynesia announced Tainui Atea, a marine protected area spanning nearly 2 million square miles around more than 100 islands.

Paul Gauguin Cruises will spotlight that location on several 2027 voyages. The May 29, 2027, 11-night Society Islands & Tuamotus sailing will launch a partnership with The Explorers Club and feature National Geographic underwater photographer, filmmaker and rescue diver Jad Davenport. He will join the sailing for onboard presentations focused on the region’s marine ecosystems and conservation efforts.

More Ways to Sell French Polynesia

While French Polynesia remains a popular honeymoon destination, Paul Gauguin Cruises is also positioning the region for solo travelers and groups of friends, as well as travelers seeking cultural and nature-focused experiences.

More than 40 percent of the line’s 2027 French Polynesia sailings are 7-night itineraries, providing shorter options for travelers with limited vacation time. The line also has over 30 2027 voyages with no single supplement.

Onboard and ashore, travelers can choose from snorkeling, visiting local markets and villages, Polynesian cooking experiences, spa treatments and other activities while moving between islands without having to repeatedly unpack.

Beyond Bora Bora

Paul Gauguin Cruises’ 2027 schedule also takes travelers beyond French Polynesia’s best-known island.

The 10-night More Tuamotus & Society Islands itinerary visits Huahine, Rangiroa and Fakarava, including an overnight stay in Fakarava, a UNESCO-recognized destination known for its coral reefs and marine life. The 7-night More Society Islands & Tahiti itinerary visits Huahine, Moorea and Raiatea, considered the spiritual birthplace of Polynesian culture.

Both itineraries include a stop at Motu Mahana, the line’s private islet off Taha’a.
