Tampa International Airport is moving forward with Airside D, a $1.5 billion expansion that will add a 16-gate terminal for international and domestic flights. Construction is underway, with the new facility expected to open to the public in 2029.

The approximately 600,000-square-foot facility will include customs and become the largest terminal on the airport’s campus.

Delta Air Lines Signs On

Delta Air Lines has been selected as Airside D’s anchor tenant, committing to at least six gates and a lounge space on the mezzanine level under a contract of up to 20 years. Delta will also move its existing Tampa Sky Club to the new terminal in 2028 as part of a major expansion and renovation.

The new terminal is expected to strengthen Tampa’s international connectivity while giving airlines additional capacity as passenger demand grows. For travelers, the project will bring new gates, customs facilities and expanded premium amenities.

Earlier this year, airport officials announced that the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Board had approved the final design for the new facility, which is designed to help the airport accommodate projected growth from approximately 25 million passengers annually today to as many as 35 million by 2037.

The terminal will include both domestic and international gates, as well as a common-use lounge, modern TSA screening, a ground-level international arrivals facility and glass boarding bridges offering views of the airfield.

The new terminal is also being designed around the passenger experience, with more power outlets, additional greenery, a children’s play area and a dedicated quiet room. More than 10 dining and retail locations are planned, while media installations and views of Tampa Bay are intended to give the new facility a distinctly local feel.
