New Ship, New Routes Shape Riverside Luxury Cruises’ 2028 Season

Riverside Luxury Cruises is adding a ship to its European river program in 2028, and much of that new capacity will go to itineraries connecting the Rhine and the Danube. Reservations for the season are now open.

With Riverside Mahler joining the fleet in May, departures through the Main-Danube Canal climb to 12 in 2028, up from four in 2026 and two in 2027. The extra vessel also gives the line spare capacity when high or low water disrupts operations, including swapping ships when needed.

Riverside Route Expansion

That capacity also opens room for new routes. “The additional ship means we can offer more departures on some of our most popular itineraries, while new routes and expanded sailings on the Lower Danube and Dutch Waterways give guests even more choice,” said Jennifer Halboth, CEO, Riverside Luxury Cruises Americas, in a press statement.

For 2028, that means 10 sailings in each direction between Budapest and Regensburg, two Dutch Waterways itineraries and three Lower Danube departures.

Clients who book any 2028 departure before June 30, 2027 receive 18 percent off the sailing price in every suite category and package type. Sailings run from early spring through December, last three to 23 nights and include new expert-led theme cruises focused on active pursuits and local celebrations.

Here is where each ship sails in 2028:

  • Riverside Debussy: Opens in March with tulip sailings in the Netherlands and Belgium, then visits the Lower Danube. New 9- and 10-night Amsterdam-Basel itineraries adding the Moselle River begin in early summer, and the season ends with Rhine Christmas market cruises.
  • Riverside Mahler: Links Germany, Austria and Hungary with Amsterdam and Basel in summer, moves to the Lower Danube in September and the Rhine in October, then closes with Danube Christmas sailings.
  • Riverside Mozart: Stays on the Upper and Lower Danube, adding a 7-night Vienna-Budapest route through the Wachau Valley and a call at Gyor, a Baroque Hungarian city. Themed departures include three Riverside Active cycling sailings in July and August, Darlings of the Danube golf cruises and an August Hungary National Day Celebration.
  • Riverside Ravel: Continues on the Rhone and Saone with calls at Lyon, Avignon, Arles, Viviers and Tain-l’Hermitage, plus visits to Chateauneuf-du-Pape, the Pont du Gard and the Rhone Delta.
