Classic Vacations is changing leadership as Melissa Krueger departs the company after 13 years, including five years as CEO. Sharon Conway, a 20-year Classic Vacations veteran and the company’s current CFO, has stepped into the role of Interim CEO, effective immediately.
“Melissa has made an extraordinary contribution to Classic Vacations over the past 13 years, and we are deeply grateful for the leadership, commitment and passion she has brought to the business,” said Gaurav Bhatnagar, Co-Founder and Joint Managing Director of TBO, in a press statement.
“As Classic enters its next chapter, Sharon is exceptionally well positioned to provide continuity while building on the momentum already created,” Bhatnagar continued. “Her understanding of the business, and combination of strategic, operational and financial expertise make her a natural leader for this moment.”
Krueger’s departure follows a strong first year for Classic Vacations as the company positions itself for continued growth. Over the past year, Classic has expanded its Sales organization, invested in technology and the travel advisor experience, broadened its destination portfolio and laid the groundwork to bring its luxury travel offering to new markets.
Conway Takes the Helm
Conway has spent two decades in senior leadership at Classic Vacations, building extensive knowledge of the company’s business model, operations, economics and strategic priorities. She has also played a leadership role through periods of organizational and ownership changes.
“Having spent 20 years at Classic Vacations, I’ve had the privilege of seeing firsthand what makes this company special: our people, the trust we’ve built with travel advisors, our consortia partners and across the industry, and the level of service we bring to every relationship,” said Sharon Conway, Interim CEO of Classic Vacations, in a statement.
In a press announcement, Classic Vacations said the leadership transition will not affect its strategic direction or day-to-day operations. Existing agreements, programs and commitments with travel advisors, suppliers and consortia partners will be honored, while the company’s teams and existing points of contact will remain unchanged.
