Details on Belmond’s New Grand Suites

Much like Belmond’s upscale offerings on its other trains, the Grand Suites are ample and were custom-decorated by an interior designer, in this case, Tristan Auer. The designer took his cue from the Scottish culture and verdant landscape to create accommodations with gorgeous dark paneling, furniture made of Scottish Larch and soft furnishings in shades of green, gray, beige and tones of blue. Think Edwardian meets Celtic in the chicest way possible.

Architecture buffs will be delighted to find the lounge follows suit, with a comfortable armchair that pays tribute to the famous Orkney Chair, in this case, a reinterpreted version with a lighter and more contemporary look, upholstered in Scottish textiles. And to reaffirm there’s no lack of a sense of place in this carriage, the armchair and sofa are covered in a bespoke tartan design that even contains references to the train’s itineraries: Scotland’s Classic Splendours, Western Scenic Wonders and Taste of the Highlands.

Clients wanting to experience Royal Scotsman, A Belmond Train, can choose from 2- to 7-night travels through the heart of the Scottish Highlands, all roundtrip from Edinburgh Waverley station. Dining is a social affair in the two wood-paneled dining cars, there is nightly entertainment and Belmond has prepared a lineup of excursions at the stops along the way that include foraging, whiskey tastings, swimming in the wild, water rafting and the can’t-miss castle tours.
