RIU will reopen the Riu Plaza Berlin and the Riu Plaza Guadalajara hotels on May 25. They will be the first properties to apply the new RIU Manual for Post-COVID hotels.
Following the closure of all of their properties during March in response to the global pandemic, the two hotels in Germany and Mexico will lead the way in applying the 17 safety protocols created by the chain in collaboration with the consulting firm Preverisk.
The protocols establish the necessary security measures to offer maximum peace of mind to customers and employees in this first phase of reopening. Encompassing all factors of the daily operation, the protocols ensure that each employee knows how to act from the moment they arrive at the job, throughout the performance of their tasks and also upon completion of daily tasks.
RIU has created a specific training program for the introduction of these new safety, hygiene and performance protocols in all of its hotels with a view to the gradual reopening of its facilities. The measures are meticulous and strict, starting with limiting hotel occupancy to 50 percent or 60 percent, except for more restrictive legal regulations, to offer maximum peace of mind and security to both guests and employees, and will gradually loosen up as health authorities issue new regulations.
The four-star hotel Riu Plaza Berlin has 357 rooms and opened in 2015 in one of the most popular areas of the city. Its reopening will take place a few days after the celebration of Pentecost, a very important holiday in Germany, as well as in its neighboring countries, and is a period when people usually take the advantage to travel.
The four-star hotel Riu Plaza Guadalajara offers 550 rooms and opened in 2011 on a thoroughfare that connects with Expo Guadalajara. Guadalajara is the capital of the state of Jalisco, as well as the second most important city in Mexico.
