There are various complimentary tours to take part in when visiting Florida’s Historic Coast—St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra. From beach tours to spooky cemetery tours, we have a handful that you can recommend to your clients.
Tolomato Cemetery Guided Tours
Guests will tour the oldest extant planned cemetery in Florida with burials from the First Spanish Period, 1565-1763. Tours take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. For more information, visit tolomatocemetery.com.
Huguenot Cemetery Guided Tours
Tour the first cemetery in St. Augustine dedicated for Anglo-American civilians. The Huguenot Cemetery was a Protestant only burial ground from 1821-1884. Tours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. For more information, visit memorialpcusa.org/visitors/huguenot-cemetery.
The GTM Research Reserve hosts various tours throughout the year, most of which are free to attend. From beach explorations, guided hikes, and family seining once a month. The beach exploration Matanzas Inlet Hike, and Family Seining are some of the complimentary events and tours the organization offers visitors.
Beach Exploration at the GTM Reserve
Travelers can join GTM Research Reserve docents from 9-11 a.m. for a beach walk. Here, your clients will learn about the animals that call the beach their home, as well as seashells and other interesting facts. This is a “Beaches 101” experience that the entire family will enjoy. The hike will begin at the Visitor Center where you will learn about the different habitats on our beautiful seashore. The group will then walk across the street to the beach to start the adventure.
Matanzas Inlet Hike
GTM Research Reserve and the National Park Service takes guests for a guided interpretive hike around the Matanzas Inlet. Your clients can explore the ever-changing shoreline, tidal flats, beaches, dunes, vegetation, birds, and wildlife.
Family Seining
On the second Saturday of each month, there is a family seining activity. Guests will get the opportunity to pull a seine net through Guana Lake, collect species of fish, crabs, and other habitats. Later, they’ll learn about the animals and their roles. All necessary gear including waders and boots will be provided. There is no age limit for kids to participate, however they must be at least 3 ft. tall to be able to hold the net.
