Saint Lucia to Open Below Saint Lucia Underwater Sculpture Park

Saint Lucia will welcome Below Saint Lucia, an underwater sculpture park off Anse La Verdure on the southwest coast, this winter, giving advisors a new diving and snorkeling excursion for clients that pairs time in the water with the island’s history.

“Below Saint Lucia is an exciting example of how we can continue to diversify our tourism product while creating experiences that are authentically rooted in our people, our history and our natural environment. It gives another reason to explore our waters while connecting with the stories that have shaped our nation. Importantly, community participation will be pivotal to the development and operation of the attraction,” said Hon. Dr. Ernest Hilaire, Minister for Tourism, Commerce, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Heritage, in a press statement.

A Tribute to Saint Lucia

In the water, clients will move through 31 sculptures arranged in seven galleries that follow Saint Lucia’s history in sequence, starting with its earliest settlers and moving through colonial conflict, enslavement, resistance and emancipation before ending with the formation of the modern nation. The figures represent people who helped shape the country, among them entrepreneurs, community leaders, war fighters and cultural preservers, along with figures from the period when slavery ended. The final tribute honors Dame Pearlette Louisy, the island’s longest-serving former Governor-General and, among those depicted, the only National Legend still living.

Residents helped make those choices. The Ministry of Tourism held a national competition that drew storyboards from Saint Lucians, and those entries shaped the final designs.

Beyond its historical focus, the park has a conservation role that fits Saint Lucia’s wider push to develop attractions that help protect the natural features they draw on. Each sculpture is designed to work as an artificial reef structure that supports marine biodiversity and coral growth, and the site is intended to educate visitors on environmental stewardship, climate resilience and ocean conservation.

Bookings will go through Saint Lucia-based tour boat operators, with opening dates and booking details posted on the destination’s website once set. The Anse La Verdure site, developed by DeepBlueSee, is the first of three planned phases, with additional locations to follow.

Why it Matters

Clients are asking for this kind of excursion. In the 2027 Virtuoso Luxe Report, a survey of more than 3,100 Virtuoso advisors in more than 50 countries released in September 2026, active and adventure trips ranked No. 4 among top travel trends for 2027, and cultural immersion ranked No. 5. Below Saint Lucia lets advisors cover both in a single bookable outing.
