Avelo Airlines Expands Service to Jamaica

Jamaica’s sun-soaked beaches are becoming even more accessible with the launch of Avelo Airlines’ second international route to the island.

Beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 12, the low-cost carrier will introduce nonstop service between Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) and Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport (MBJ), operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

More Routes to the Island

The expansion follows Avelo’s debut flight to Jamaica in Nov. 2024 from Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Connecticut—home to one of the largest Jamaican communities in the U.S. With this new Raleigh-Durham route, Avelo offers additional travel options for vacationers and Jamaicans living in the U.S.

Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Edmund Bartlett, welcomed the airline’s growth, emphasizing its significance for the island’s thriving tourism industry. “The launch of this additional gateway during our key winter season reflects the confidence placed in Jamaica by our partners. This year, we’re poised to welcome an unprecedented number of visitors, which will continue to strengthen Jamaica’s economy and create opportunities for its people,” he said in a press statement.

Since its launch in 2021, Avelo Airlines has transported over five million travelers across 23 U.S. states, Puerto Rico and now two international destinations—including Jamaica.

The expansion aligns with the island’s broader tourism efforts, as Jamaica’s Director of Tourism, Donovan White, highlighted in a press statement. “With additional infrastructure expansions across the island, we’re making it easier than ever to experience all that Jamaica has to offer. We firmly believe that the journey itself is part of the vacation, and by offering more convenient travel options, we’re ensuring that every step of the experience is incredibly seamless.”
