Princess Cruises’ Star Princess Completes First Panama Canal Transit

Princess Cruises marked a key milestone as its newest ship, Star Princess, completed its first transit of the Panama Canal over the weekend.

As Star Princess transited the canal, guests experienced the crossing firsthand, with views of the lock system and surrounding landscapes. The milestone highlights the ship’s inaugural season and reinforces the line’s longstanding presence in Panama Canal itineraries.

“A Panama Canal transit is a true ‘must-do’ journey for travelers around the world, and it’s especially meaningful when one of our newest ships makes this iconic passage for the very first time,” said Gennaro Arma, Star Princess Captain, in a press statement. “We’re honored to make this historic crossing in partnership with the Panama Canal Authority, whose expertise and stewardship have shaped one of the world’s great maritime landmarks.”

Onboard Events Enhances Experience

Princess Cruises delivered dedicated programming during the transit, including expert commentary, presentations and expanded viewing opportunities from open decks and observation areas.

Princess Cruises introduced regularly scheduled Panama Canal cruises in 1967 and continues to position the itinerary as a core offering. The 2026–2027 season will feature six ships operating 31 departures across nine itineraries, with sailings from Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Vancouver.

The 177,800-ton Star Princess, part of the line’s Sphere Class, accommodates approximately 4,300 guests. The ship combines expanded dining, entertainment and accommodations with the brand’s focus on personalized service.
