Transcend Cruises has signed a new-build construction agreement with Den Breejen Shipyard for two additional river ships, increasing its fleet to four vessels by 2028. The milestone arrives as the company’s first ship, Connect, nears completion and prepares to launch this July as the first river cruise vessel built exclusively for the group charter market.
“It is an extremely exciting time for Transcend as we get closer to bringing the first ever river cruise ship built exclusively for the group market into service this summer,” said Hans Rood, Chief Development Officer, Transcend Cruises, in a press statement. “On the heels of this exciting milestone comes the introduction of our second ship and the steel cutting of our third, soon to be followed by our fourth vessel. This speaks to the strong demand we’ve seen from the group market for Transcend’s concept and the exceptional bookings we’ve received for sailings on our first ship, Connect, in 2026 and beyond.”
Two More for Transcend
The new ships, Create and Engage, will feature hulls built in Orsova, Romania, with final construction at the Den Breejen Shipyard in Hardinxveld-Giessendam, Netherlands. Delivery for Create is set for October 2027, while Engage is expected in the first quarter of 2028. The company’s long-term vision includes a fleet of up to 12 river ships.
Transcend’s Evolve, currently under construction following a keel-laying ceremony held March 16, 2026, in Orsova, Romania, is scheduled to enter service in May 2027. The same ceremony marked the start of steel cutting for Create. Company representatives in attendance included Chief Executive Officer Gregg Marston, Chief Development Officer Hans Rood and Chairman of the Board Shawn Horwitz. Den Breejen Shipyard was represented by Commercial Director Wouter Henstra and Broker Tom van den Berg of Rensen Driessen.
All four Transcend vessels—Connect, Evolve, Create and Engage—share a consistent design concept created by Tillberg Design of Sweden. Each 443-foot ship caters exclusively to charter clients operating group programs on the Rhine and Danube rivers. The ships accommodate between 30 and 120 guests through a fully flexible layout of 60 identical guestrooms. Each pair of guestrooms can convert into a 2-room suite with a separate living area, bedroom and two baths.
Transcend Cruises operates with up to 60 percent fewer guests than typical European river cruise lines and maintains one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios in the industry. Each ship features five venues that can accommodate all guests simultaneously, including the Forum, a 2-story amphitheater designed for meetings, presentations and performances. The Studio on the lower deck provides space for meetings of varying sizes and layouts. All event spaces feature advanced audiovisual systems suited for professional and social functions.
The onboard 2,600-sq.-ft. fitness, spa and wellness center is the largest of its kind among river cruise ships. Dining experiences include three chef-driven venues and multiple beverage spaces emphasizing European culinary traditions. Each Transcend vessel also integrates brand-enhancement technologies, such as digital signage, lighting and sound systems designed to support customized charter experiences.
Environmental responsibility remains central to its development strategy as the fleet expands through 2028.
