Hyatt and RLH Properties will transform the Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya into Alila Mayakoba, marking the Alila brand’s debut in Latin America and the Caribbean. The resort will suspend operations on March 2 and reopen later in the year.

The Alila brand focuses on providing guests with immersive, eco-conscious experiences. Alila Mayakoba, situated on 148 acres of mangrove forest, will be refurbished using locally sourced materials and operating under sustainable practices.

Connection to Community and Environment

“We’re excited to introduce Alila to this world-class destination and offer guests a deep connection to the local community and environment,” said Pete Sears, Group President, Americas, Hyatt, in a press statement. “This will be a one-of-a-kind destination where luxury meets sustainability.”

The rebranding will also significantly upgrade the resort’s accommodations and amenities. The number of guestrooms will be reduced, with 40% of the inventory converted to wellness-focused suites. These suites will feature design and technology elements aimed at enhancing guest wellbeing. The resort will also introduce expansive wellness facilities, including gardens for guest programming, a renovated spa with hydrotherapy amenities and a new Temazcal, a traditional Mexican steam bath.

Culinary offerings at Alila Mayakoba will include a coffee shop, a three-meal restaurant with an organic garden, two signature restaurants and a beach-front dining experience. The resort’s food and beverage experiences will feature local ingredients and sustainable practices.
