Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism industry has rebounded quite vigorously, surpassing pre-pandemic levels and setting new records in 2024.
The twin-island nation has witnessed an unprecedented influx of visitors, with stay-over arrivals exceeding a quarter million in 2024. This surge has led to record occupancy rates across all properties, indicating a robust recovery and promising growth trajectory for the tourism sector.
Record-Breaking Arrivals for Antigua and Barbuda
“Our growth in 2024 is a direct result of our efforts to strengthen connectivity, position Antigua and Barbuda as a regional hub with two international airports, expand our hotel and accommodation offerings, invest in human capital, and stay on top our game,” said Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez in a press statement.
The U.S. market has been particularly instrumental in driving this growth. “It only underscores the effectiveness of our strategic initiatives, especially in the U.S. market. Our partners have been stellar, and the credit goes to you for a rewarding journey of growth and the promise of even greater success,” said Dean Fenton, U.S. Director of Tourism, in a press statement.
Yachting Excellence Enhances Destination Appeal
Antigua and Barbuda’s reputation as a premier Caribbean yachting destination continues gaining ground. The yachting season, which coincides with the winter months, offers your clients multiple opportunities to experience the islands’ many attractions.
While Antigua Sailing Week remains a popular fixture, the RORC Caribbean 600 has gained global recognition as one of the world’s premier offshore races. Held in late February, this event now features the expanded RORC Nelson Cup Series, attracting elite sailors and cutting-edge vessels to the island.
English Harbour, the Caribbean’s yachting hub, buzzes with activity during these events. Visitors can enjoy a fun atmosphere with restaurants and bars serving local and international cuisine within walking distance of each other.
CHTA Marketplace: Spotlight on Caribbean Tourism
Antigua and Barbuda’s growing influence in the hospitality industry is further evidenced by its hosting of the 43rd annual Caribbean Marketplace. Organized by the Caribbean Hotel Association, this event runs from May 18 to 22, 2025, and serves as a platform for discussing future initiatives, innovation, and expansion in Caribbean tourism.
The marketplace facilitates negotiations and knowledge exchange among industry insiders, potentially driving increased arrivals from the U.S. market. In the press statement, Fenton encouraged U.S. business partners and travel advisors to stay engaged: “It’s an exciting time for the industry and we are urging our business partners and travel advisors in the U.S. to remain engaged. The various activities in destination signal positive trends for the growth of business.”
This event showcases Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism offerings and highlights its capacity as a conference destination. It marks the islands’ second major international conference in about a year, with several more planned for the coming years.
Registration for the Caribbean Marketplace is now open. This event will offer U.S. tourism trade professionals an opportunity to gain insider knowledge on selling unique Caribbean experiences and establishing strategic relationships with top suppliers and industry experts.
