AmaWaterways has named Catherine Powell as its new President, effective Feb. 17, 2025. In her new role, Powell will work alongside co-founders Rudi Schreiner and Kristin Karst, reinforcing AmaWaterways’ commitment to innovation and excellence in the luxury river cruise industry.
With her extensive experience and innovative outlook, Powell has been chosen to complement the existing leadership team and contribute to the company’s future success.

Powell brings more than 15 years of experience in the travel, hospitality and entertainment sectors, having held key leadership positions at notable companies. Most recently, she served as Global Head of Hosting at Airbnb, where she oversaw a global community of more than five million hosts. Previously, Powell worked at The Walt Disney Company, where she played an integral role in driving double-digit growth and spearheading strategic transformations that enhanced revenue and operational efficiency.
As President, Powell will report to co-founder and CEO Rudi Schreiner, ensuring seamless collaboration with the existing leadership team. Schreiner expressed confidence in Powell’s ability to drive AmaWaterways forward, saying, “Catherine’s vision and leadership will be key in taking AmaWaterways to new heights. Her expertise will allow us to explore new opportunities in the luxury cruise market while maintaining our core values.”
Kristin Karst will continue her role as co-owner and co-founder while also stepping into the position of Chief Brand Ambassador. “I look forward to strengthening our relationships with the travel trade community and building awareness of our brand worldwide,” Karst shared in a press statement. “We remain committed to delivering the exceptional experiences our guests have come to expect.”
