Japan Cruise Company Expands Fleet with Seabourn Ship

MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES has acquired a second luxury cruise ship from Seabourn. The 458-passenger Seabourn Sojourn will undergo a significant transformation before joining the MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES fleet in late 2026.

Expansion of MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES

The expansion of MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES is a key part of the company’s vision to provide authentic, luxurious cruise experiences under the “FUNATABI—Beautiful encounters with Japan” concept.

In December 2024, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. purchased the sister ship to the Seabourn Sojourn and repositioned it as the MITSUI OCEAN FUJI. The ship debuted to excellent guest reviews and praise for its spacious suites, fine dining and onboard entertainment.

“We are thrilled with the reception of MITSUI OCEAN FUJI and the growing success of our cruise offerings,” said Tsunemichi Mukai, President of MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES, in a press statement. “The positive guest feedback has confirmed that our ships, with their elegant amenities and immersive cultural experiences, are the ideal vessels to expand our brand and bring guests closer to the beauty of Japan.”

Before entering service under the MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES brand, the Seabourn Sojourn will undergo extensive refurbishment in drydock, where it will be re-registered and launched as a Japanese-flagged ship. The vessel will offer a range of intimate, short domestic itineraries around Japan, focusing on the Sea of Japan region.

As with MITSUI OCEAN FUJI and NIPPON MARU, the new ship will provide guests with exclusive access to unique destinations in Japan, enhancing the cultural immersion and luxury experiences that MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES is known for.
