Neos Offers First Direct Flight from New York to Italy’s Far South

Travelers now have a new nonstop gateway to southern Italy, as Italian airline Neos has launched its first direct flight from New York’s JFK International Airport to Bari, the capital of the Apulia (Puglia) region. The inaugural flight took off on Tuesday at 5 p.m., marking the start of a weekly service that is expected to continue into the fall.

Puglia, Here We Come

“We are very happy to announce that as of today, the new direct flight from New York to Bari will be available, a strategic connection that confirms the major growth potential of the Apulian market,” said Carlo Stradiotti, CEO of Neos, in a press statement. “Our goal is to carry about 12,700 travelers in the first year of operation. These flights are a recognition of the beauty, vitality and international credibility that Puglia has been able to build.”

Flights are operated on Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, offering 355 seats in Economy and Premium classes. The weekly schedule departs JFK on Tuesdays and returns from Bari’s Karol Wojtyla Airport on Wednesdays, giving travelers a full week to explore southern Italy. In addition to Bari, Neos flies daily from JFK to Milan and Palermo, and also offers nonstop service from Toronto to Milan.

The launch is also a major win for the region’s tourism sector. “Today is a day of celebration for the people of Apulia,” said Antonio Maria Vasile, CEO of Aeroporti di Puglia, in a press statement. “This new connection will boost the ambitious growth of tourism in a destination known for its breathtaking landscapes, ancient history and renowned food and wine.”
