Mexico Tourism Hit All‑Time High in 2025

Mexico’s tourism industry reached a historic milestone in 2025, welcoming 98.2 million international visitors, marking a 13.6 percent increase over 2024 and setting a new record for the country.

According to Secretaria de Turismo de Mexico (SECTUR), the surge reflects sustained demand for travel to Mexico across leisure, cruise and cross-border markets.

“The figures for 2025 confirm that Mexico is experiencing a solid and sustained period in tourism. Never before in our country’s history have so many visitors arrived in a single year,” said Josefina Rodriguez Zamora, Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, in a translated media statement. “This result reflects a strong, resilient sector with a clear vision for the future.”

Tourism Revenue Reaches $34.9 Billion

Data shows that foreign exchange income from international visitors totaled $34.99 billion in 2025, a 6.2 percent increase year over year. Of the nearly 100 million international visitors recorded, 47.8 million were overnight tourists, representing a 6.1 percent increase compared to 2024.

The broader visitor total includes both overnight travelers and day-trippers, such as cruise passengers and border visitors.

Strategic Positioning for 2026

Rodriguez Zamora emphasized that the record-breaking performance positions Mexico strongly for 2026, a year expected to bring major international events and increased global attention.

“We are approaching 2026 with a strengthened, competitive tourism sector and a solid foundation for continued growth,” she said. “Tourism will continue to be a tool for social, economic and territorial transformation for the country.”

The tourism ministry also confirmed ongoing efforts to strengthen air connectivity, diversify the country’s tourism offerings and promote balanced regional development aimed at benefiting local communities, businesses and tourism workers nationwide.
