Croatia is once again open for U.S. travelers. The country allowed U.S. travelers during its 2020 summer season through October. And now, it’s once again open for Americans.
Croatia was one of the first European countries that immediately closed its borders for international tourism in March 2020, gradually opening up as the summer season progressed. As Croatia is predominantly a summer European travel destination, international tourism between November and April is always very limited, which is why the country opted to close its borders over the quieter winter period.
From mid-May 2020 onwards the Croatia borders were open to all travelers, including Americans who were required a PCR test to enter the country. Croatia allowed American travelers to travel to the country from May through October 2020.
The current regulations on entry to Croatia are fluid and will be updated regularly, as the country approaches its tourist season, which operates from May through to October.
As the 2021 travel season begins, restaurants, cafes, and bars have started to reopen as of March 2021 offering only outside table service and take out. There is also currently no curfew in place. In addition, wearing protective masks is mandatory in all closed spaces throughout the country, as well as in open spaces where 6 ft. of social distancing is not possible.
Travelers from U.S. Traveling to Croatia
Passengers must have a negative PCR test in their possession upon entry, taken not more than 48 hours prior to entry. Passengers do not need to stay in self-isolation upon arrival. If not in possession of the negative test, a PCR test will be taken, at their own expense, at an institution authorized to perform PCR testing and the result must be negative. Travelers from the U.S. may also provide documentation from a licensed health care provider of having recovered from COVID-19 in the 90 days preceding travel.
If travelers do not present a negative PCR test upon arrival, they will be required of a mandatory 14-day self-isolation. In addition, traveleres may be ordered to self-isolate or spend 14 days in official government quarantine facilities if deemed necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19; placement in quarantine is at the expense of the traveler.
Entry for tourism is permitted only with documentary evidence of an accommodation paid in advance and in full, prior to arrival at the border. The accommodation reservation alone is not sufficient to be permitted entry.
