United Airlines is significantly expanding its international network for summer 2027, adding 10 new destinations across Europe and Asia, launching three additional international routes and bringing its new Airbus A321XLR into international service.
The expansion represents United’s largest international network growth to date and adds destinations including Okinawa, Japan; Toulouse, France; Luxembourg City; Marseille, France; Ibiza and Valencia, Spain; Terceira, Portugal; Ljubljana, Slovenia; and Olbia and Catania in Italy.
“The creative and strategic way we’ve expanded our international network since the pandemic has made all the difference, not only for our customers and employees, but also as a way to differentiate United and build a brand focused on customers,” said Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines, in a press statement.
United’s New International Destinations
The new routes begin rolling out in March 2027, with service from United hubs in Newark, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco.
From San Francisco, United will fly to Okinawa, Japan, starting March 27, making it the only U.S. airline to offer nonstop service to the destination.
From Newark, United will add daily service to Luxembourg City beginning April 2, followed by flights to Ljubljana, Slovenia, beginning May 12. The carrier will also launch new service from Newark to Olbia, Sardinia, beginning May 27; Catania, Sicily, beginning May 28; Ibiza, Spain, beginning May 31; Valencia, Spain, beginning June 2; Marseille, France, beginning June 4; and Terceira in Portugal’s Azores, beginning June 9.
From Washington Dulles, United will launch daily service to Toulouse, France, beginning April 26. The new routes to Luxembourg City, Toulouse, Ibiza, Valencia and Marseille will be operated by United’s new Airbus A321XLR.
Three More International Routes
United is also adding new service to destinations already on its international network.
From Los Angeles, United will launch daily nonstop service to Osaka, Japan, on March 27, making it the only airline to serve Osaka from two continental U.S. cities. From Washington Dulles, United will begin nonstop service to Milan on May 28. From Denver, United will launch daily nonstop service to Paris beginning May 27, complementing existing Paris service from Newark, Washington Dulles, Chicago and San Francisco.
The airline also plans to resume service between San Francisco and Tel Aviv on March 28, offering the most business-class seats between the two cities of any airline, according to United.
A New Aircraft for International Travel
Several of the new routes will be operated by United’s new Airbus A321XLR. The single-aisle aircraft is designed to give travelers a more premium experience on long-haul international flights.
The aircraft will feature 20 United Polaris suites with privacy doors, 12 United Premium Plus seats and new Economy Plus seating with additional elbow room and access to a shared table across an open middle seat.
Passengers will also have access to free Starlink WiFi for MileagePlus members, 4K seatback screens with Bluetooth connectivity and a snack bar in United Economy.
The A321XLR will initially enter domestic service in September before transitioning to international flights on December 1, when it will begin flying from Washington Dulles to Amsterdam and Dublin.
