The Betsy Hotel Brings Opera to Ocean Drive

The Betsy Hotel, a family-owned, independently operated luxury property in Miami Beach’s Art Deco District, is putting opera back in the hands of the people. The hotel’s Opera on the Terrace series—now in its 11th year—is now free to the public.

Staged in partnership with the Miami Beach Classical Music Festival (MMF), the 30-minute performances take place on the fourth Saturday of each month and feature a mix of classic opera, Broadway favorites and beloved standards.

The singers—rising stars and alumni of MMF’s training programs—deliver world-class vocals to crowds that often gather spontaneously, drawn to the music. The monthly opera pop-up performances are held on the hotel’s front terrace, which faces the lively stretch of Ocean Drive.

And Opera is Just the Beginning

The hotel also hosts live jazz nine times a week—without a cover charge or drink minimum—inside its Piano Bar space. Featuring award-winning musicians from around the world, performances take place Sunday through Thursday from 6 to 11 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays until midnight and during weekend brunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The full schedule can be found on the hotel’s online entertainment calendar.

Since its reopening in 2009, the 130-room boutique hotel hosts rotating art exhibitions, poetry readings, classical music events and an artist residency program that has welcomed more than 1,000 creatives, including poets, painters and performers.

Signature installations like The Betsy Poetry Rail—an outdoor homage to 12 Miami-based poets—and The Betsy Orb—a striking architectural bridge that connects the hotel’s two buildings—further reflect the hotel’s dedication to making art an everyday experience.
