Italy offers a treasure trove of offerings to inspire romance, whether your clients are looking for a romantic getaway, the most idyllic spot for a proposal, a flirtatious honeymoon or a glittery destination wedding. Here, we put the focus on some of the country’s most intoxicating destinations—Venice & South Tyrol.

South Tyrol—Star-Studded Romance
In the northernmost reaches of Italy, South Tyrol, with its mountainous backdrops, stunning vineyards and picturesque apple orchards, is made for romance. Take Bolzano—blending German and Mediterranean traditions, it’s ideal for couples who want to get lost in a winter wonderland as it’s known for its charming Christmas market. For romance coupled with wellness, the town of Merano is famous for its thermal baths, complemented by botanical gardens and serene parks. But it’s the area’s vineyard scenery that really takes the romance up a notch—who wouldn’t want to say “yes” to their partner when proposed amidst a backdrop of mesmerizing villages and vineyards for as far as the eye can see. Hand-in-hand, couples can discover, for example, the Bressanone Vineyards Trail, which starts in the Adlerbrucke Bridge, in the city-center, before gradually moving into cool woods and among vineyards flanked by typical dry stone walls. Along the trail, couples will come across traditional rural taverns where they can enjoy a fine glass of local wine. The trail ends at the Monastery of Neustift, also known as the Abbey of Novacella, where the road sets off again to return to Bressanone.

Venice—Embraced by Beauty
To step foot into Venice is to enter a picturesque postcard where romance beckons around every corner. Suspended over the water, and made up of bridges and canals, this extraordinarily beautiful city has always been considered the quintessential Italian city of love…and for good reason. I mean, who can resist the charm of a gondola serenade at sunset?

Here, where one finds one of the world’s most famous squares, couples will find secret gardens enclosed within the walls of palaces or convents, terraces offering breathtaking views, off-the-beaten-path islands and monumental public parks. Idyllic spots for proposing run the gamut, from the historic garden of the 17th-century Palazzo Soranzo Cappello to the Caffè La Serra, a former 19th-century greenhouse that is now a cafe with a lovely flower shop, not to mention the Mystical Garden of the Discalced Carmelites, with a vegetable garden where the friars cultivate herbs and flowers. Also ideal for popping the question is the terrace of Palazzo Pisani—the highest in Venice; the top of the 15th-century spiral staircase of Palazzo Contarini; and the Correr Museum Café, overlooking St. Mark’s Square.

For an unparalleled honeymoon while exploring Venice, tell your clients to go island-hopping—to the history-packed Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, embraced by the beauty of Venice and its lagoon; to the Island of San Francesco del Deserto, where couples will find an oasis made for vowing eternal love; and to the Island of San Lazzaro degli Armeni, home to a monastery and considered a slice of Armenia in the Venice lagoon.
