New York City nightlife is the driving theme behind Mad Apple, the new Las Vegas show from Cirque du Soleil.
The first Cirque du Soleil show to debut in Las Vegas since the entertainment troupe shut down amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Mad Apple will feature a “cocktail of music, comedy, magic and mayhem that puts NYC nightlife under the Las Vegas lights,” according to a press release.
Mad Apple will, appropriately enough, be staged at the New York New York casino hotel in Las Vegas. It opens on May 26.
The show is broken into six distinct acts, each centered on a unique aspect of noctunral New York. Mad Apple will open as a Manhattan bar scene, complete with cocktail service, before transforming into a stage show. Performers will include musicians, dancers, comedians, magicians and circus performers.
Live music will range from compositions by George Gershwin to Alicia Keys. A standup comedian, Brad Williams, will serve as emcee — a first for a Cirque du Soliel show.
The show is led by Simon Painter, whose creative company The Works (The Illusionists) was recently acquired by Cirque du Soliel.
Mad Apple will be Cirque du Soleil’s sixth show on the Las Vegas Strip. The others include The Beatles LOVE at the Mirage Hotel & Casino, Michael Jackson ONE at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Mystere at Treasure Island, “O” at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino, and Ka at the MGM Grand.
