Tailored Itineraries Up North

Summer in Norway’s Arctic North is unique: From mid-May through late July, the sun never sets, and Up Norway has built a portfolio of tailor-made itineraries around that single, striking fact. This season introduces a new property: Ytri Island Retreat, a high-end landscape hotel at Traena, the farthest point on the Norwegian coast. Floor-to-ceiling windows run throughout the property, and the design balances natural materials with comfort throughout.

Torunn Tronsvang, founder and CEO (Chief Experience Officer) of Up Norway, curates accommodations such as Ytri and selects experiences tailored to each client’s ideal itinerary. Options this season include:

  • Midnight surfing on the waves at Unstad in Lofoten
  • Kayaking through fjords at 1 a.m. in golden light
  • A bonfire and gourmet picnic on the shore in Senja, where jagged peaks reflect in still water
  • The Traena Festival in Helgeland (Norway’s version of Burning Man) with dancing under the midnight rays

Up Norway’s itineraries integrate insider access, sustainable travel and smart logistics.

New From Butterfield & Robinson

Butterfield & Robinson is adding four Small Group journeys to its 2027 portfolio. Each is built on the company’s decades of on-the-ground relationships, offering access travelers can’t arrange on their own: after-hours visits to private collections, dinners in private chateaux and home-cooked meals in local villages.

Itineraries include:

  • Belgium by Bike & Beyond: This Limited-Edition journey travels from the World War I battlefields of Ypres through the forested roads of the Ardenne and into Luxembourg. Belgium has long been treated as an add-on to the Netherlands rather than a destination in its own right, but growing demand among travelers has prompted the company to build a dedicated itinerary around it.
  • Oaxaca Multi-Active: The route combines cycling through mezcal country, high-country hiking in the Sierra Norte with a Zapotec guide and time at Monte Alban, one of Mesoamerica’s most significant archaeological sites. Oaxaca’s food scene, pre-Columbian history and living Indigenous culture have moved it to the top of travelers’ shortlists in recent years.
  • Northern Scotland Hiking: From Inverness to Torridon, this journey traverses the Northern Highlands with a food and whisky scene that has matured significantly in recent years. B&R’s network of regional contacts, from clan chiefs to local photographers, provides access that goes well beyond the standard guidebook.
  • Cotswolds & Somerset Hiking: Five days on foot, starting in Oxford and moving south and west through Bibury, Tetbury’s antiques quarter, the Cotswold Way ridge, Bath’s Roman and Georgian core, the prehistoric site at Stanton Drew and the town of Bruton. Somerset remains largely off the international radar, which is part of the point—walking between villages on ancient footpaths is a completely different way to read this landscape.

Untamed Travelling has added four new Caribbean itineraries to its lineup, covering destinations from the Lesser Antilles to the Amazon River.

The four new itineraries:

  • Luxury Sailing Cruise Lesser Antilles: A 16-day cruise roundtrip from St. Maarten, calling at Guadeloupe, St. Lucia, Grenada and St. Barthelemy. Stops include the marine life of the Tobago Cays, Dominica’s volcanic interior, Grenada’s spice plantations and the fine-dining scene in Gustavia.
  • Island Hopping Guadeloupe: Sixteen days moving between Basse-Terre, Marie-Galante, Les Saintes and Grande-Terre by rental car and ferry. The itinerary mixes volcano hikes, diving and snorkeling in clear water and encounters with tropical wildlife.
  • Combination Trip St. Kitts and Nevis: Fifteen days across two islands—the first half centered on St. Kitts’ colonial history and natural landscape, the second focused on water-based activities in Nevis.
  • Cruise from Panama to the Amazon: The most wide-ranging of the new offerings at 23 days, this voyage departs and returns to Panama City, crossing the Caribbean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and into the Amazon River. Ports of call include Aruba, Trinidad and Tobago, Brazil, Grenada and Curacao, with experiences ranging from Aruba’s Dutch colonial architecture and Port of Spain’s multicultural street life to Brazil’s river ecosystem and Grenada’s beaches.

Of note: Untamed Travelling has also added Saba to its destination portfolio.

Porto from the Douro River. (Photo by CIE Tours)

CIE Tours is adding a new Iberian route to its 2027 lineup: Northern Spain & Portugal, an 11- or 12-day itinerary with Sunday departures from February through December. Select departures operate as small-group tours capped at 26 guests.

The route moves north from Madrid through the wine country of Rioja, the Basque Country and the coastlines of Cantabria and Asturias before reaching the pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela. From there it crosses into Portugal, stopping in Porto, the medieval town of Obidos and finally Lisbon. The 12-day version adds a full day in Lisbon via hop-on hop-off bus. This is the first time CIE Tours has included Portugal in a tour.

Experiences built into the itinerary:

  • Rioja Winery Visit & Tasting Lunch: A guided tour of vineyards and cellars, followed by tastings and lunch at one of the region’s 500 wineries
  • San Sebastian Pintxos Experience: A walking tour of the Basque Old Town with stops at bars serving counter-top snacks—a centuries-old local tradition
  • Asturian Cider House Dinner: Dinner at a traditional sidreria, where cider is poured from high above the server’s head in an aerating ritual
  • Douro River Cruise & Port Tasting: A scenic cruise beneath Porto’s bridges, then a visit to a port house in Vila Nova de Gaia for tastings and lunch
  • Aveiro Canal Cruise: A traditional moliceiro boat ride through “Portugal’s Venice”
  • Fado Dinner & Show: A farewell evening at a traditional Lisbon Fado house with Portuguese cuisine and live music

The tour operates under CIE Tours Inclusive Advantage, with all experiences and most meals covered in a single upfront price. The 11-day includes 10 hot breakfasts, two lunches and six dinners; the 12-day adds a breakfast.

The 11-day starts at $3,995 per person, double occupancy, land only. Book by August 31, 2026, and the price drops to $3,595—a savings of $400 per person.

All in the Family Intrepid Travel

Intrepid Travel has added eight itineraries to its family lineup with the launch of a new Premium Family range, covering Costa Rica, Sri Lanka, India, Borneo, Vietnam, Morocco, Thailand and Egypt. Departures are capped at three to five families and led by the company’s most experienced local guides.

The timing is deliberate. A Wakefield Research study found 80 percent of families have traveled specifically to expose their children to new cultures, and more than half do so regularly. A separate Intrepid survey of more than 2,600 parents across the U.S., Australia, Canada and the UK reinforced that figure—80 percent want their children to experience new destinations, while 70 percent say they place a higher value on trips where logistics are handled for them.

The new Premium tier sits above Intrepid’s existing Basix, Original and Comfort styles, with more elevated accommodations and broader inclusions. The company now operates 58 family itineraries across 30 countries and six continents, a segment that recorded 19 percent year-on-year growth in 2025.

Standout itineraries in the new range include:

  • 10-day Morocco Premium Family Holiday: A night at a Sahara Desert camp with a traditional dinner, live Gnaoua music and open-sky stargazing.
  • 9-day Borneo Premium Family Holiday: An overwater villa stay with kayaking, snorkeling, stand-up paddleboarding and a coral planting workshop focused on the region’s marine ecosystem.
  • 8-day India Golden Triangle Family Holiday: A rickshaw ride through Keoladeo National Park for birdwatching and a wildlife safari at Jhalana Leopard Safari Park in an open-roof 4WD.

Other hands-on experiences across the range include Arabic calligraphy classes with local artists in Morocco and cooking alongside local families in India. Departures begin December 2026.
