American Cruise Lines has officially christened its newest small ship, American Pioneer, during a ceremony held on Nov. 10 in Key West, Florida. The 130-guest vessel becomes the 21st ship in the American Cruise Lines fleet and enters service on the company’s new 16-Day Grand Florida Coast & Keys itinerary, which showcases both the Atlantic and Gulf coastlines.

The christening took place while the ship was docked at Mallory Square, a recurring two-day port call on the new itinerary. The stop in Key West includes access to 20 shore excursions, such as visits to Dry Tortugas National Park.
The onboard ceremony brought together cruise guests, local officials and community partners on the ship’s top deck for the blessing and bottle-breaking tradition, followed by a reception in the Sky Lounge. Speakers included American Cruise Lines President & CEO Charles B. Robertson and Godmother Danise “Dee Dee” Henriquez, Mayor of Key West. Mayor Henriquez also served as godmother of American Legend, a Coastal Cat launched by the cruise line in February 2025.
“We are thrilled to christen another new ship here in Key West, and we are especially honored to be joined by American Pioneer’s godmother, Mayor Henriquez, along with many of our inaugural cruise guests,” said Charles B. Robertson, President & CEO of American Cruise Lines, in a media statement.
Designed for coastal and inland cruising, American Pioneer features all-balcony accommodations, multiple lounges and varied dining venues. The ship is the first in a planned series of sister ships, with nine additional vessels currently under construction.
The inaugural Florida voyage began in Amelia Island on October 31 and concluded in St. Petersburg on November 15. The line will continue operating domestic Florida itineraries through April 2026 using three vessels, including its 9-Day Florida Gulf Coast & Keys roundtrip cruises from St. Petersburg.
