Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisbon's Voyages & Vintages Wine Experience.

Odyssey‑Inspired Wine Experience Debuts at Lisbon Hotel

As interest grows ahead of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of The Odyssey, Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisbon is introducing a new wine experience that connects guests with one of the city’s oldest legends.

The luxury hotel has launched Voyages & Vintages, an immersive tasting at its recently opened 1933 Wine & Spirits Collection by Cellar 47. The experience draws inspiration from the centuries-old Portuguese legend that Ulysses (Odysseus), hero of Homer’s epic poem, founded the settlement that became present-day Lisbon after the Trojan War.

“The story of Ulysses is ultimately about the transformative power of a journey,” said Jorge Silva, Wine Director of Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisbon, in a press statement. “As guests arrive in Lisbon from around the world, they become part of that same tradition of exploration. Our Voyages & Vintages wine tasting experience allows them to experience Portugal through its landscapes, flavors and stories while connecting with one of the city’s most enduring legends.”

Travelers are invited to discover the city of Ulysses and the tastes of Portugal.

A Mythology-Inspired Tasting

While historians consider the story mythological, it remains an enduring part of Lisbon’s cultural identity and provides the foundation for the hotel’s newest guest experience.

The guided tasting showcases four Portuguese wines representing different chapters of Ulysses’ legendary journey. Along the way, guests learn about Portugal’s wine regions, maritime heritage and Lisbon’s mythical connection to the ancient voyager. The experience concludes with a complimentary bottle of Justino’s Madeira Boal 10 Years Old for each participant.

The hotel’s Odyssey theme extends beyond the tasting. Guests are encouraged to view the property’s 1957 mural by Portuguese artist Risques Pereira, which depicts scenes inspired by Ulysses’ travels, before heading to the rooftop wine venue.

Located on Avenida da Liberdade, Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisbon has welcomed guests since 1933 and remains one of the city’s landmark luxury hotels. The new tasting adds another cultural experience to the property’s offerings while highlighting Portugal’s wine traditions.

The launch coincides with growing anticipation for Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey, scheduled for U.S. release on July 17. The film is expected to generate renewed interest in destinations connected to the legendary hero, including Lisbon, where local folklore has long celebrated Ulysses as the city’s mythical founder.
