JW Marriott is opening the JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp, an all-inclusive safari retreat in Kenya’s Solio Game Reserve.
Located within the 45,000-acre private conservancy, the camp combines traditional safari experiences with wellness programming, farm-to-table dining and conservation-focused activities.
Luxury Safari Meets Wellness
Designed by LW Design, the property features tented accommodations with private plunge pools, outdoor decks and interiors showcasing handcrafted furnishings and artwork by Kenyan artisans.
Guests can explore the reserve through sunrise and sunset game drives, guided walking safaris, cycling excursions and birdwatching experiences. Night drives provide opportunities to spot nocturnal wildlife, including leopards, servals and spotted hyenas.
The camp also offers photography experiences with access to Canon equipment and guidance from resident photographers, as well as optional activities such as helicopter tours, trout fishing on Mount Kenya, and painting sessions.
Dining Rooted in Local Flavors
Dining centers around seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, many harvested from the property’s on-site garden. The signature restaurant, Mavuno, highlights Kenyan flavors alongside international cuisine.
Guests can visit the Solio Rhino Orphanage to learn about wildlife rehabilitation and conservation efforts. The property also supports local schools and women’s artisan programs through the Lazizi Welfare Foundation.
Sustainability initiatives include solar power, rainwater harvesting, wastewater recycling, and composting.
The camp is located near Nanyuki Airstrip, approximately a 30-minute flight from Wilson Airport, or a three-hour drive by road from Nairobi. Alternatively, guests can book a private charter from Wilson Airport to Solio Ranch Airstrip — a 35-minute flight from Wilson Airport and a 10-minute drive to camp.
