Traversing the U.S., serving more than 500 destinations in 46 states, and three Canadian provinces, Amtrak’s private rooms are available in a variety of sizes to accommodate solo travelers, couples, and families. A standard room features two comfortable seats that can be converted into beds, complimentary WiFi, charging outlets, and an expansive window to enjoy great views of the landscape.
Those clients who opt for private rooms receive complimentary lounge access at major stations and priority boarding. Onboard amenities and services include complimentary meals and a dedicated sleeping car attendant who can assist with luggage and provide turndown service.

Private rooms are available on 13 routes, including the 18-hour Capitol Limited, running daily from Washington, DC, to Chicago. Passengers follow the historic B&O line on the journey through the Potomac Valley, past historic Harpers Ferry and the Allegheny Mountains into Pittsburg. They’ll cross into Ohio heading north to Cleveland and then across Ohio and Indiana into the center of Chicago. Another option is the 19-hour Lake Shore Limited, with daily service between Chicago and New York City, running through South Bend, Cleveland and Buffalo, along the south shore of Lake Michigan, the Mohawk River and the Erie Canal. On the U.S. West coast, the 35-hour Coast Starlight, running daily, passes through Santa Barbara, the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento and Portland, offering views of the snow-covered peaks of the Cascade Range and Mount Shasta, lush forests, fertile valleys and long stretches of Pacific Ocean shoreline.
