ASTA Launches Sustainability Course for Advisors

The American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) has partnered with Tourism Cares—a nonprofit dedicated to promoting sustainability in travel—to launch a new digital course designed to help advisors take their first step into sustainable travel.

The introductory-level program is now available at no cost to ASTA members and also qualifies as an elective for maintaining the Verified Travel Advisor certification.

“Travel advisors have an opportunity to educate and inspire clients,” said Zane Kerby, President and CEO of ASTA, in a media statement. “We’ve partnered with Tourism Cares for many years, and this course deepens that collaboration by helping advisors better understand the value of meaningful travel—both for their business and for preserving the natural and cultural integrity of the destinations we love.”

The self-paced course is divided into three short segments, each featuring a video presentation by Tourism Cares, making it easy for advisors to learn on their schedule.

Topics include the core principles of sustainable travel and how incorporating responsible travel products can add value to an advisor’s offerings.

“Travel advisors play a vital role in shaping the future of travel, and their influence can drive meaningful impact for destinations and communities worldwide,” said Greg Takehara, CEO of Tourism Cares, in a media statement. “By partnering with ASTA, we’re providing advisors with the tools they need to integrate sustainability into their business—so that every journey not only enriches the traveler but also supports the people and places they visit.”

Advisors interested in the course can access it through ASTA’s member portal. It’s a meaningful first step in building a more responsible, purpose-driven business model that resonates with today’s conscientious traveler.
