Variety Cruises Names Steve Reynolds CEO

Variety Cruises has named Steve Reynolds chief executive officer, with former CEO Filippos Venetopoulos moving to executive chairman. The leadership change at the small-ship line follows a major financial restructuring and comes with an evolving governance structure.

Reynolds will lead the business, overseeing its people, execution, commercial development, operational performance and financial discipline, while Venetopoulos will focus on governance, key industry relationships and long-term strategy. The family-owned company’s roots date to 1949, and the Venetopoulos and Vassilakis families have both shaped it over the decades.

“For me, this moment is deeply personal,” said Filippos Venetopoulos, Executive Chairman, in a press statement. “I grew up with my grandfather’s entrepreneurial spirit and my father’s belief that business should be about much more than numbers—about people, generosity and the ability of travel to connect us. As the third generation, our responsibility is to have the courage to evolve what we have inherited. Steve’s arrival allows me to focus on that long-term vision while giving him the authority and space to lead. Together with the Vassilakis family, our partners and our people, I am genuinely excited about this next chapter and the opportunity to combine our heritage with fresh leadership, new ideas and a stronger foundation for the future.”

Reynolds’ recent roles include senior vice president of Discover Qatar, Qatar Airways Group’s destination management company. His international leadership experience spans destination management, distribution and travel and tourism.

A New Era at Variety Cruises

Expansion plans center on bringing Variety’s 7-day small-ship itineraries to more destinations, backed by stronger operations, consistent service and investment in developing staff. Growth will also help extend the reach of Variety’s not-for-profit, Variety Cares, whose three pillars are education for all, gender equality and clean oceans.

“I am delighted to be joining Variety Cruises at this pivotal point in its 77-year family-owned history,” said Steve Reynolds, Chief Executive Officer, in a press statement. “The business has a stronger foundation for growth, and the demand for intimate, destination-focused cruising creates an exciting opportunity for Variety. Its heritage, distinctive itineraries and personal approach give us a great deal to build on. I look forward to working with Filippos, the Venetopoulos and Vassilakis families, our experienced teams and global distribution partners to strengthen performance, develop our people and bring Variety to more travellers—always with the aim of serving our valued guests.”
