LAX will be closing Terminal 5, which will be fully demolished and rebuilt to deliver an all-new terminal and enhanced passenger experience. The reimagined facility is slated to reopen just ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Terminal 5 airlines began relocating operations in phases yesterday, Tuesday, Oct. 21, with full closure going into effect on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
The newly completed Midfield Satellite Concourse South (MSC South)—an extension of the West Gates at Tom Bradley International Terminal—together with other existing terminals, will accommodate passengers and flights currently operating from Terminal 5. MSC South added over 150,000 sq. ft. and eight gates to LAX’s footprint.
Until new Terminal 5 opens at LAX, check-in and ticketing activities will have the following changes:
- JetBlue will operate out of Terminal 1
- Spirit Airlines will operate out of Terminal 2
- American Airlines will operate out of Terminal 4, beginning Oct. 28
