Club Med is returning to U.S. soil, and St. Croix is where the brand will make its homecoming. The company has announced the acquisition and planned redevelopment of Carambola Beach Resort in the U.S. Virgin Islands, in a partnership with VICI Properties.

Club Med and VICI Make a Deal
Under the deal, VICI has acquired the property and entered a long-term triple-net lease with Club Med. VICI will fund the redevelopment; Club Med will manage operations once the project is complete. The future Club Med St. Croix—a 150-guestroom resort situated between a crescent beach and a tropical rainforest—will join the brand’s Exclusive Collection, its premium portfolio characterized by elevated design and personalized service.
The property has a notable history. Originally built in 1986 by philanthropist and conservation pioneer Laurance Rockefeller, Carambola Beach Resort has long been among the island’s most recognized beachfront addresses. Club Med’s renovation plans are designed to preserve its natural character and historic roots while bringing it up to Exclusive Collection standards.
Sustainability is central to the project. Club Med is targeting both BREEAM and Green Globe certifications, consistent with its Happy to Care commitments. The redevelopment is also projected to be a significant economic driver for St. Croix and the broader Virgin Islands. Upon opening, the resort is expected to generate approximately 200 direct jobs and at least as many indirect opportunities. Plans include collaboration with local excursion operators, service providers, farmers and artisans. Government officials have been engaged in discussions around local employment, education, training and business development, with Club Med committing to continued community engagement in the months ahead.
The resort is positioned to attract travelers from the U.S., Canada and around the world seeking a high-quality all-inclusive experience in a unique island setting.
Construction is set to begin in summer 2026, with a targeted reopening in the fourth quarter of 2027.
