Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, Legend of the Seas, has reached an important stage in its construction, officially touching water for the first time at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland. The float out marks the next phase in the ship’s progress as it moves to the outfitting dock, where work will continue ahead of its scheduled August 2026 debut.
The 12-hour process of filling the dry dock with water was celebrated by the shipyard and Royal Caribbean teams, highlighting a milestone in bringing the third Icon Class ship closer to welcoming its first guests.
Part of the line’s newest class of ships, Legend of the Seas will feature eight distinct neighborhoods. Highlights include the Category 6 waterpark, Crown’s Edge—a combination skywalk, ropes course and thrill ride—as well as a wide range of dining and entertainment options. Additional features are expected to be announced as construction continues.
When it launches, Legend of the Seas will sail 7-night Western Mediterranean itineraries in Europe during summer 2026 before repositioning to the Caribbean in November 2026. Caribbean sailings will include 6-night Western Caribbean and 8-night Southern Caribbean itineraries, with visits to destinations such as Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas.
The ship will also advance Royal Caribbean Group’s sustainability initiatives as the company’s fourth vessel powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Environmental features include waste heat recovery systems and shore power connections, which contribute to the Group’s goal of introducing a net-zero cruise ship by 2035.
Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas is now sailing to the Caribbean from Port Canaveral, Florida.
