Explora Journeys is preparing to take its luxury hospitality from the ocean to Europe’s rivers.
The luxury cruise line has signed a letter of intent with Dutch shipbuilder Den Breejen Shipyard to construct its first river ships, marking the brand’s planned entry into the river cruise market.
Explora Journeys has not yet released details on the vessels’ design, onboard experiences, delivery schedule or initial itineraries. The company says additional information will be announced soon, with sales planned to open in 2027.
The move will bring Explora Journeys’ Ocean State of Mind philosophy to Europe’s major rivers, extending the brand’s focus on European hospitality, design and a more relaxed approach to luxury cruising into a new type of itinerary.
A Growing Explora Fleet
The river announcement comes as Explora Journeys continues expanding its ocean fleet. The brand recently welcomed EXPLORA III following a naming ceremony in Barcelona earlier this summer.
The newest ship builds on the design of EXPLORA I and EXPLORA II while adding expanded public spaces, new dining concepts and enhanced wellness offerings.
EXPLORA III is also the first LNG-powered vessel in the Explora Journeys fleet and has shore-power capability for ports where the necessary infrastructure is available. EXPLORA III is set to sail an inaugural season spanning Northern Europe, Iceland, Greenland and North America.
