American Airlines is upgrading its regional fleet with new seats and services. Nearly 300 regional aircraft are already equipped with high-speed satellite Wi-Fi, and American expects to expand coverage across its entire dual-class regional fleet by early 2026.
The carrier also confirmed it will introduce complimentary Wi-Fi for AAdvantage members beginning in January. Every aircraft will also allow travelers to stay charged and connected throughout their flight.
Fleet-Wide Cabin Updates
Passengers boarding newly delivered Embraer 175 and Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft will notice refreshed interiors with modern cabin design and updated seating that mirrors American’s mainline fleet. The airline also plans to retrofit CRJ700, CRJ900, E170 and E175 aircraft across its regional partners to ensure consistency systemwide.
“Our customers value staying connected in the air, even on a relatively short flight,” said Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer, in a press statement. “We’ve been working diligently to ensure our regional fleet offers the best and most reliable high-speed connectivity, especially as we look ahead to free Wi-Fi in 2026.”
To align the customer experience across all flights, American has standardized its onboard snack program. Premium cabin travelers on regional routes will now see additional snack baskets offered throughout the day. AAdvantage members can also redeem miles for in-flight purchases on both mainline and regional flights.
Looking ahead, American is working with Embraer to introduce larger overhead bins on select regional aircraft, aimed at easing the boarding process for customers traveling with carry-on bags.
