I just disembarked the newly christened Norwegian Luna, homeported at PortMiami, following a fast-paced celebratory weekend that highlighted the ship’s strengths: diverse dining, a new Elton John–inspired production and plenty of activity-driven appeal for clients, from families to couples and those exploring the world solo.
The 3,565-passenger Prima Plus Class ship will operate Caribbean itineraries that include calls to Norwegian Cruise Line’s private destinations, Great Stirrup Cay in The Bahamas and Harvest Caye in Belize.
The christening ceremony took place Friday afternoon, with hull artist ELLE serving as the ship’s godmother. Her hull design, La Luna, is described by the company as a dreamscape exploring humanity’s connection to the cosmos and the moon’s influence.
“The moon has always symbolized connection, rhythm and transformation, forces that mirror the journeys we take in our own lives,” said ELLE. “I hope every guest feels a sense of wonder and possibility as Norwegian Luna carries them toward new horizons.”
“Norwegian Luna represents the evolution of NCL—a brand built on freedom, flexibility and delivering experiences that resonate with every type of traveler,” added Kazlauskas. “Curated to deliver attractions for families with the NCL-exclusive Aqua Slidecoaster, and the all-new Moon Climber and Luna Midway activities; as well as adult-only experiences like the late-night production of ‘LunaTique,’ Norwegian Luna is the perfect ship for multigenerational travelers looking for a warm vacation in the tropics. With itineraries designed to bring guests to Great Stirrup Cay, our private island in The Bahamas, they will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the highly anticipated offerings that our guests are raving about.”
He said Norwegian Cruise Line is focused on flexibility, noting guests are not “forced to run on our schedule.” The line has also reintroduced its 1990s tagline, “It’s Different Out Here,” tied to its Freestyle Cruising approach. “Guests have the freedom to do ‘everything’ or ‘nothing at all,’” Kazlauskas added.
From April 2026 through April 2027, Norwegian Luna will offer a variety of itineraries to the Eastern Caribbean and Western Caribbean. Following Norwegian Luna’s season in Miami, the ship will sail from New York, offering guests 4- and 7-day roundtrip itineraries to Bermuda from April 2027 through October 2027.
Look for Recommend’s May issue, where I review the Norwegian Luna and Great Stirrup Cay’s new enhancements, including the adults-only Vibe Shore Club.
