Founded by the Spaniards in 1543 and declared a “Monument of America” in 1965, Antigua offers a harmonious blend of ruins, restored architecture and colonial-style buildings. Advisors will visit the Central Plaza, framed by architectural treasures like the Antique Cathedral, the Municipal Government Building and the Palace of the Captains General.
Colonial Charm of Guatemala
Stops include colonial churches, monasteries, a jade factory and traditional foot-loom textile workshops. Tours continue to Chichicastenango. This open-air Indigenous market is considered the most vibrant and picturesque in the country, where hundreds of locals gather to barter produce, textiles and crafts.
Advisors will also witness moving religious ceremonies at the 400-year-old Church of Santo Tomas—a revered site where respectful attire and conduct are required. From there, the FAM heads to Lake Atitlan, known for its crystal-clear waters and volcanic backdrop. Surrounded by 12 traditional Mayan villages, the lake offers an intimate window into the folklore and traditions of the Quiche, Cackchiquel and Tzutuhil peoples.
The FAM is $599 per person. Solo travelers are not eligible for this FAM.
