Bahia Principe to Reopen Renovated Explore Jamaica on Dec. 1

Families and groups headed to Jamaica’s north coast will have a renovated all-inclusive option in Runaway Bay on Dec. 1, when Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica reopens after roughly a year of work on its guestrooms, suites, common areas, dining, entertainment and leisure spaces.

The resort returns as part of Explore, one of two sub-brands Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts uses to sort its hotels by the way guests travel. Explore is for families, groups and travelers who want relaxation, leisure and entertainment alongside local culture, while Escape serves adults looking for a more relaxed, sophisticated stay centered on disconnecting. The split helps guests identify which hotel fits their needs, motivations and travel style, as the company moves toward clearer positioning and a more premium offering.

“The reopening of this hotel is a significant step for Bahia Principe, because it allows us to bring back a completely renovated strategic asset to our portfolio and strengthen our presence in Jamaica,” said Julio Perez, CEO of Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, in a press statement. “With this investment we renew our commitment to the destination and consolidate a more competitive offering, elevating the customer experience through a proposition adapted to the evolution of demand and to the preferences of our customers.”

For Families Who Want to Explore More

The 647-guestroom resort, 43 miles from Montego Bay airport, follows a “Roots” concept that links the guest experience to Jamaican culture, the natural setting and the relaxed pace of the Caribbean. Its seven restaurants include Knife, an a la carte steakhouse, plus Italian, Mongolian and international options, the Route 66 concept and more casual venues, and it has three pools. Guests can also use the a la carte restaurants at the adults-only Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay.

Families get a Kids Club, a waterpark, creative activities, a bike tour, patois classes and Bahia Principe Village. The entertainment lineup adds live music, karaoke, beach parties, dance classes and sports, along with “Xaymaca The Show,” which traces Jamaica’s history and rhythms.

The reopening falls under the joint venture between Hyatt and Pinero that manages the Bahia Principe resorts and owns the brand. Bahia Principe keeps its brand identity, while the resorts join Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection and connect to Hyatt’s global platform.

Of note: To mark the reopening, Bahia Principe has launched a promotional campaign at the resort with discounts of up to 50 percent.
