The Slate Denver, located at the site of a historic former school downtown, is scheduled to start welcoming guests today, May 24.
Part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton, the Slate Hotel has 251 guest rooms. The four-story, 135,000-square-foot building is on the site of the Emily Griffith Opportunity School. The school, opened in 1926, was founded by education pioneer Emily Griffith and welcomed students of all ages and races — “all those who wish to learn.” It was one of the first trade schools in the U.S.
Hotel amenities will include an outdoor patio, fitness center, 4,500 square feet of meeting and event space, a business center, complementary wifi and digital room keys. The design is inspired by the property’s educational roots; it incorporates the original staircases and hallways, and features typewriter artwork and school-themed meeting rooms.
Slate Hotel chef Michael Poompan oversees Teachers’ Lounge Food + Drink, with a menu focused on local ingredients. Poompan’s updates twists on traditional food include Crispy Bison Meatloaf Bites and Jumpin’ Good Goat Cheese. The property’s signature cocktail is the apple-themed Emily.
The Slate Denver is located across the street from the Colorado Convention Center. It’s close to the Denver Art Museum, Denver Botanic Gardens and the Meow Wolf: Convergence Station interactive art exhibit. The hotel’s adjacent restaurant and retail block, Emily’s Alley, will add a new shopping, dining, and gathering destination to downtown Denver.
