Located on the Thai island of Bang Krachao, known as the Green Lung of Bangkok, bordered by tropical jungle and the Chao Phraya River, RAKxa Integrative Wellness is a wellness-focused retreat catering primarily to guests looking for help defining and achieving their personal health goals.

Peacefully isolated yet still conveniently connected, the retreat—with its 60 one-bedroom villas—is less than an hour’s drive from each of Bangkok’s two international airports: Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang.

Derived from the Thai root word (RAHK-sah, รักษ) meaning to conserve, guard, cherish and heal, the name RAKxa “reflects the retreat’s overall concept to help guests prevent illness, sustain good health and promote healing,” explains Kanittha Kaensarn, RAKxa’s Assistant Director of Sales.

One point of distinction is that RAKxa promotes the combination of modern medical diagnostics and treatments with ancient healing wisdom and teachings.

Programs and Activities

The center offers a complete team of specialists for its guests.

RAKxa’s three to 14-night integrative programs offer a full repertoire of treatments, exercises, lifestyle modification and nutrition plans created by a team of wellness professionals, including (on the medical wellness side) eight on-site physicians categorized as anti-aging and aesthetic doctors, plus an additional eight doctors (on the holistic medicine side) including Ayurvedic along with both traditional Thai and Chinese practitioners. The team also includes various therapists, physiotherapists and fitness instructors.

Based on the programs offered, client goals and intentions that might be achieved at RAKxa include detoxing, destressing, weight management, achieving gut health, boosting immunity and a wide range of other desired outcomes.

According to Kaensarn, one of RAKxa’s more popular programs is the 7-Night Ideal Weight Program, which is designed to help guests reset their metabolism and work towards achieving a desirable weight.

Scheduled, multi-day retreats sometimes include those led by world-renowned wellness experts such as Dr. Deepak Chopra, who led a 5-night retreat earlier this year.

Wellness for Solo Travelers

According to Kaensarn, RAKxa is a great option for solo travelers, as they provide a personalized itinerary for each guest based on the specific program selected.

She says, “while our wellness programs are inclusive of treatments that support specific health goals, treatments can be adjusted and customized according to the results of the personal consultations.”

A one-on-one consultation with each guest takes place on the first or second day of arrival. In order to assist with the selection of a suitable program, pre-visit online consultations can also be arranged at no extra charge. Local Culture and Best Time to Travel

When it comes to experiencing the local culture, the Bang Namphueng Floating Market, open on weekends, is less than a mile from RAKxa. However, Kaensarn recommends that, so as not to interfere with any specific goal-specific program, it may be best to set up pre- or post-visits to local attractions, which her team can arrange in advance.

When it comes to the best time to travel, Kaensarn suggests that since most guests will be in private sessions, the weather may not affect them much. However, she says, “You can expect the weather to be slightly cooler in December and January.”

On a final note, Kaensarn says RAKxa Integrative Wellness is more than just another wellness retreat, “it’s where state-of-the-art medicine meets traditional wisdom.”
