AMResorts announced the groundbreaking of Dreams Estrella del Mar Mazatlan, located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, across from the tip of the Baja California Peninsula, and in Estrella del Mar—a private gated golf and residential community on a stretch of over 900 acres with 3.5 miles of secluded beachfront. This development brings the first Dreams Resorts & Spas branded property to the destination and will have an investment of over 70 million dollars.

The president of Group Pinsa, Jose Eduvigildo Carranza Beltran, hosted the groundbreaking ceremony, where the first stone was laid to begin construction. The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marques and other guests presided the ceremony, which was also joined by Apple Leisure Group’s (ALG) CEO, Alejandro Reynal, and ALG chairman, Alex Zozaya.

“Mexico remains a cornerstone of Apple Leisure Group’s global expansion strategy because of the number of destinations it offers that have yet to be explored by most North American travelers. We believe in Grupo Pinsa’s vision in the potential that Mazatlan offers, especially for a unique resort option such as Dreams Estrella del Mar Mazatlan, for adults and families alike” said Javier Coll, Group president of Global Business Development, in a press statement. “Travel demand for the luxury all-inclusive sector is bouncing back quickly, and owners must be aligned with a partner who understands how to navigate the ebbs and flows of the market to be well-positioned for the imminent recovery.”

Carranza Beltran, president of Grupo Pinsa added, “Mazatlan is the largest port city in Mexico’s Pacific coast, and a renowned beach destination still ripe with opportunity for tourism—the Dreams Estrella del Mar Mazatlan development will have local and statewide economic impact and set Mazatlan center stage for future long-term hotel investments. We understand the market’s potential and have aligned ourselves with AMResorts, a trusted partner, to ensure the profitability of our investment.”

The resort will be located 5.5 miles from Mazatlan’s International Airport in Estrella del Mar and will feature an elegant design with locally sourced materials, highlighting the natural beauty and vegetation of the site. The resort’s 350 beachfront suites, including 29 swim-out suites and a separate adults-only section, as well as various amenities are located along a central pedestrian walkway.

Guests will enjoy access to five gourmet restaurants featuring diverse international cuisines, multiple pools, an aquatic park and a lazy river, all of which face the Pacific Ocean. The resort will also have a theater and a convention center for up to 700 people, overlooking the golf course.

Estrella del Mar currently has a conservation program that, for over 20 years has been dedicated to protecting sea turtles, and an onsite sanctuary.

The resort’s spa and wellness center will be located in over 1,800 sq. ft. featuring a hydrotherapy area with waterfalls, whirlpools, geysers, a panoramic sauna, and a hammam; the treatment rooms will all offer private terraces.

Dreams Estrella del Mar Mazatlan will be complemented with an 18-hole professional golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The par-72 course features tropical landscapes, recently expanded greens, new tee boxes, and strategically placed bunkers. The John Jacobs Golf School, also located in the gated community, offers personalized golf classes and clinics, equipment rental, a clubhouse with a pro-shop, a restaurant and a bar.

Upon opening, Dreams Estrella del Mar Mazatlan will be the 20th Dreams Resorts & Spas branded property in the AMResorts portfolio—the company remains on pace to reach its goal of more than 100 branded properties by the end of 2021.
