Socially conscious millennials are driving the growth of sustainable tourism, according to Intrepid Travel, which has inspired the company to launch trips specifically for the 18 to 29 age range. More than 80 trips have been exclusively designed for these young travelers who are interested in sustainable, immersive, and local experiences—a travel sector that has shown global sales up by 17 percent.

This demographic has played a key factor in growing this travel sector with 7 percent of the increase in departures being attributed to them. According to press materials, James Thornton, CEO for Intrepid Group, says the new 18 to 29 age range tours provide a socially conscious generation with an alternative to backpacking and big bus tours.

These new tours, however, mean that Geckos Adventures, which has been managed by the Intrepid Group since 2013, will come to an end. Starting Oct. 1, 2018 all Geckos Adventures tours will become Intrepid Travel’s 18 to 29s trips. Intrepid’s new segment will offer 20 percent more departures and new trips to destinations such as Iceland and Russia for 2019.

A few of the offered itineraries include the 11-day Essential Vietnam starting at $835 pp, the 15-day Real Everest Base Camp starting at $1,450, the 10-day Essential Cambodia starting at $715 pp, the 16-day Real Central America starting at $1,400 pp, and the One Week in Jordan itinerary starting at $800 pp. The least expensive trip is the Five Days in Cappadocia itinerary starting at $335 pp. On this trip, guests will take in the history of Kaleici, go underground in Derinkuyu, hike the Ihlara Valley, and enjoy a feast in Istanbul.

These trips will all provide travelers with a local leader to help them make the most of their adventure, the opportunity to choose to bunk with a new friend or to pick their own room for a small extra fee, plenty of free time for exploring, as well as optional activities, local meals, plus a sustainable travel experience.

Intrepid has partnered with Friends-International, a leading social enterprise saving lives and rebuilding futures for marginalized young people around the world. And the company will make a donation to Friends-International for every 18 to 29s trip booked.

These trips will be offered with $99 deposits, and priced at the same level as Intrepid’s Basix range.
