Grupo Posadas is making significant moves in Mexico’s hospitality landscape with an ambitious development pipeline that includes luxury repositioning and new builds across key destinations. George Hunter, VP of Leisure Sales for the hotel group, shared exclusive details with Recommend about upcoming properties that will reshape the company’s portfolio.
Posadas Projects
The most intriguing development involves Izla Beachfront Hotel on Isla Mujeres, which Posadas will take over on April 1. “We can tease you a little bit,” Hunter told Recommend exclusively. “We will operate the hotel as Izla Beachfront Hotel by Fiesta Americana Travelty for about a year, and it will reflag as a Devossion by Live Aqua Isla Mujeres in 2027.”
The transformation represents a complete repositioning strategy. Currently operating as a family-friendly European Plan property, the hotel will convert to an all-inclusive adults-only format by summer’s end. Following extensive guestroom renovations, it will debut as Devossion in 2027, targeting the upscale and luxury segments.
“That’s hot off the press,” Hunter noted about the Isla Mujeres project, emphasizing the exclusive nature of the announcement.
Hunter also shared that Riviera Maya will see significant expansion with Grand Fiesta Americana Riviera Maya opening in November as a new build. “It’s been a long time coming for us to get something truly in Riviera Maya. So, very, very excited about that,” Hunter said. The property will launch in two phases, with a soft opening in Nov. and the second phase opening in March. Live Aqua Riviera Maya will follow within 12 months, positioned adjacent to the Grand Fiesta Americana.
When asked about luxury positioning, Hunter clarified the brand strategy: “Devossion when we are finished with the guestroom renovation at Isla Mujeres, Devossion will be positioned in the upscale and luxury segment, and our Grand Fiesta Americana brand is also targeted to that segment. Grand Fiesta Americana as a brand is family friendly, whereas Devossion will remain adults only both in the all-inclusive space.”
The developments are part of Posadas’ broader expansion strategy announced late last year. The company enters 2026 with more than 200 hotels and 29,922 guestrooms across Mexico’s top destinations. With 34 hotels in development representing more than 4,800 additional guestrooms, the investment exceeds $880 million.
Additional 2026 openings include Fiesta Americana Funeeq Punta Cana, Live Aqua Centro Historico, Grand Fiesta Americana Riviera Cancun, Fiesta Inn Queretaro Aeropuerto and One Mazatlan Centro Historico.
The company is also launching Sunvivia by Fiesta Americana, a new lifestyle and wellbeing-focused brand debuting in Mazatlan. Sunvivia Mazatlan by Fiesta Americana will feature 177 residential-style suites across four oceanfront towers, multiple pools and jacuzzis, diverse dining options, meeting spaces and a full spa. The property introduces the “All in Joy” concept, blending wellbeing, entertainment and family connection.
